Summit of G-8 nations in Scotland may be disconnected with the realities in the markets and wishes of its population. The stagnant growth in Europe, rising global oil prices and lack of global trade growth and plight of farmers around the world are not some of the items of on the agenda. Broad rally though weak by the end of the day kept investors in the buying mood throughout the day. While oil dropped in the morning hours but during the final hours clocked a sizable gains as worried traders took positions for the long weekend. While Asian markets closed mixed the European markets had a positive closing as oil was still in decline at the mid-day in NY trading.

The ninth rate hike of 25 basis points in a year by Fed had many traders worried of how many more to come. The fed rates have tripled in the last twelve months but mortgage rates have not. Fed's tone for inflation fight at 'measured pace' has not changed. Not many sectors were spared after the Fed rate hike report in the afternoon as market continued its slide towards close.

Fed raied the rate as expected by 25 basis point. The ninth increase in less than 30 months is associated with the Fed's desire to keep inflation under control in the rising energy costs. Claims for the unemployment declined last week by 6,000 and personal income grew by 0.2%. America continues to sell its asset to foreigners as net investment deficit grew by $327 billion in 2004.
